Maika Maile - My story // mtvU “Half Of Us” campaign

Thank you mtvU and Half Of Us for incorporating There For Tomorrow and I into their efforts against detrimental human issues.

Over the latest half of my life, I’ve come across a vast array of inquisitions regarding who I am and why I do what I do. I believe my past is the largest indication of what I involve myself with at given times. There are never intentions of exalting any sort of mystique with the way I reveal myself, people have just found me to be a mystery. This may help you solve it.

On Oct 27 we, The Material,  will be doing a benefit show for a cause that is very close to me..helping a family that is dealing with cancer.  3 years ago my wife lost her 33 year old brother to cancer.  I saw the disease take a 6 foot plus, strong, healthy, and vibrant person into a state to where I didn’t even recognize him that last time I visited.  Now, my own mother is dealing with a second bout with cancer.  A year ago she was diagnosed with breast cancer.  They removed the growth, treated it with chemo/radiation, and now it’s back.  Not only is it back, it has spread throughout her body creating a diagnosis of Stage 4 incurable cancer. I hate this disease.  I hate what causes it, I hate what it does to our loved ones, and I hate that anyone has to deal with it.  When I was first asked to do this show I did not hesitate to say yes.  Proceeds from the door will go to help Timothy Hatch and his family as they deal with the mounting medical bills that are inevitable when dealing with cancer.  Please go to www.hope-culture.com to purchase tickets in advance for this event. The Material doesn’t make it up to the Bay Area very often so this is a great chance to see us play and help out a family in need.

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

Illegal Pete’s launches “Starving Artists Program”

Denver, CO – Illegal Pete’s restaurants are trying to make the road a little more enjoyable for touring bands with the launch of it’s “Starving Artists” program. The program offers free food to bands on tour in hopes that the bands tell their friend’s and fans worldwide about their experiences at Illegal Pete’s.

The restaurant, which has four locations in the Denver Metro Area and two in Boulder, launched the program as a way to get like minded people into their restaurants and create a community atmosphere for musicians and fans alike.

Spearheading the program is Virgil Dickerson, CEO of Suburban Home Records, and Andy Thomas, a local musician and music journalist.

“Both Virgil and I have toured with bands over the years and we realize how tying it can be sometimes,” Thomas said of the program. “We just want to help out those bands on tour by giving them a good meal, a place to hang out and, if they feel like it, a place to party afterwards.”

People interested in Illegel Pete’s Starving Arists Program are being urged to contact either Virgil or Andy by email at music@illegalpetes.com. If you know of a band coming through Denver, make sure they get in touch.

Was just about to post this! Best idea ever. Illegal Pete’s makes my favorite burrito outside of San Diego. I always look forward to being in Denver on tour so I can make a stop there.

We’ve been to Illegal Pete’s almost EVERY SINGLE time we’ve EVER been to Denver. There’s a Swellers sticker from our FIRST TOUR EVER inside the Denver location by the silverware/sauce section.

Hands down our favorite burritos in the country AND Virgil/Andy are my buddies! All of this made me very happy. to read. Burritos and good people. Life.

ILLEGAL PETE’S!! Melt people faces and then get some free food. Life on the road.

Reblog this and get the word out.
